Willard (1971) is a psychological horror film about a lonely, socially awkward young man who discovers he can communicate with and control rats. Bullied at work and isolated at home, Willard forms a close bond with two rats named Socrates and Ben, using them to exact revenge on those who torment him. As his grip on reality weakens, the rats grow in number—and in menace. Directed by Daniel Mann and starring Bruce Davison, the film became a cult classic and helped launch the killer animal subgenre of the 1970s.
